Creative Arts

We value all areas of Creative Arts at Turvey Lower School and are committed to providing our children with a wide range of high quality arts experiences, regardless of background and ability.  We believe that they are an important part of a child’s learning and development.  The Arts help the children to grow in confidence and to develop their creativity.

We encourage the children to discover and pursue their interests and talents by providing them with regular opportunities to be creative.  They enjoy participating in class assemblies, shows and productions.  The children love to perform their own productions on the wooden staging in the playground.  Drama is a key element of our Literacy curriculum and is used as a powerful teaching tool in other areas of the curriculum.

In Year 4 the children have the opportunity to participate in the Creative Arts Festival held at Sharnbrook Upper School; this involves all areas of Creative Arts and gives the children the opportunity to perform to a large audience.

Music is also an important part of our curriculum and the children can choose to learn the piano, guitar or violin from KS2.  We have a specialist music teacher who teaches our KS2 children and organises our school choir which is open to all year groups.  The children enjoy organising regular concerts and KS2 participate in the annual ‘sing on’ concert at Bedford Corn Exchange.
